The Midwife

Dawn Wadleigh, LM, CPM
I created Firstlight Midwifery Care in January of 2003 with the vision of a professional yet warm and inviting place where pregnant women from all walks of life could find the kind of individualized care they were looking for. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communications from Western Washington University. After living in Bellingham for 7 years, my husband and I moved back to Tacoma, where I was born and raised, so that I could attend the Seattle Midwifery School. Here I was able to learn the art of midwifery from a wide variety of practitioners throughout Western Washington, as well as overseas on the island of St. Lucia. LM, or Licensed Midwife, is a license given and renewed yearly by the State of Washington Department of Health. CPM, or Certified Professional Midwife, is a national certification awarded through the North American Registry of Midwives. I am a member of both the Midwives Association of Washington State and the Professional Midwives Association.

My husband Rafe and I have two children, Ava (2001), and Dean (2005), who were both born at home in the water. My family, my midwifery practice, and my many cats and dogs keep me busy, but in my spare time I love to swim, read, spend time at our lake cabin, and travel.
